Our Africa Program

The Parliamentary Centre’s work in Africa has been a cornerstone of its international initiatives, reflecting a deep commitment to fostering democratic governance across the continent. Since 1999, the Centre has supported over 30 African parliaments, collaborating on a wide range of programs aimed at strengthening legislative effectiveness, improving transparency, and ensuring that governance is more inclusive and accountable. A key area of focus has been empowering women in politics, recognizing the crucial role that gender equality plays in building vibrant, representative democracies.

Through capacity-building efforts, training, and advocacy, the Centre works to increase the participation of women in legislative processes, ensuring that their voices are heard and their contributions are valued. This focus on gender empowerment not only enhances the quality of decision-making but also fosters a more equitable political environment across Africa, helping to pave the way for more stable and democratic societies.
