re-posting from Memorial University of Newfoundland
June 3, 2022. St. John’s, NL. Parliamentary Centre Board Member, Dr. Ross Reid received the degree of doctor of laws, honoris causa, this morning at Memorial University of Newfoundland’s spring convocation ceremonies.
In addition to serving in high-ranking levels of politics and government, Mr. Reid has served with the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs in Ukraine, Ghana, Kosovo and Afghanistan since 1994.
He has advised on and conducted democratic development programs in more than 30 countries in Asia, Africa and Europe with a focus on political parties, elections, parliaments and civil society.
It is no surprise, then, that Dr. Reid focused on the role Memorial University plays in a healthy, functioning society while addressing graduates and their assembled guests in the Arts and Culture Centre auditorium.
“The university, like all institutions, can only benefit from a process of self-examination and revival, but we must never lose sight of the role we so badly need it to play in the lives of our people and our province as a dynamic, creative, confident and independent institution: a place of teaching and learning, of research and investigation critical to our economic, cultural and social development.”
Congratulations, Dr. Reid.
