Keeping the spotlight on parliaments is critical at a time when democracy is challenged in a rapidly changing world.
We are taking the opportunity to highlight the resilience of the Parliament of Ukraine in the face of war, aggression, and uncertainty. Despite extraordinary challenges, under wartime conditions the Rada has passed more legislation than any of its previous convocations. It has played a vital role in Ukraine’s defence effort, bolstering a whole-of-society response to addressing the crippling effects of the war. It is also the pluralistic institution hosting the much-needed debate, policy, and legislation on further reforms towards rebuilding and reconstruction and Euro-Atlantic integration.
We have been proud to support the Rada through the recently completed Phase II the Parliamentary Accountability of the Security Sector project, possible with the financial support of Global Affairs Canada.
On this day, The Parliamentary Centre reaffirms its commitment to protecting and strengthening parliamentary democracy and calls on Canada and the international community to continue backing the vital work of Ukraine’s elected representatives and the parliament as a stronghold for freedom.
